OperationNoLimits: Help juveniles in a detention center in Lino Lakes realize the joy of gardening. Two-hour commitment which has usually been done on a Tuesday during the day, 2:30 – 4:30. Some of the projects so far have been helping with starting winter greenhouses in plastic jugs, planting seeds, and propagating and dividing plants.
Help the City of Shoreview by cleaning up along a trail. We do it once in the spring and once in the fall. Walking for one hour is involved. The clean-up will probably happen on a weekday evening (not in the dark). The city provides the bags. Helpful to wear gardening gloves. This one has been a great group activity, especially to get to know your fellow garden club members better. We have a trail along Highway 96 that we are tending for the next year; it’s a 2-year commitment.
Make bouquets from flowers from our own gardens and deliver them to caregiving facilities in the area. Clip some flowers and fillers/greenery from our own gardens and join a small group that puts together flower bouquets. You don’t need to know anything about flower arranging since the bouquets are simple. We make about 15 every time we meet for about 1.5 hours, usually on a weekend morning, in Shoreview. It would be helpful if you could help deliver a few, too.
Staffed table space at Mounds View Yard & Garden Expo in collaboration with Project Ardan on
March 1 from 10-2:00. Educated the public about gardens and plants. Told them about club membership. Made new friends and connections.
We made 13 bouquets that were made within 1.5 hours that were delivered to five different facilities for the elderly: Eaglecrest, Johanna Shores and its assisted living next door, Cardigan Ridge, Bel Rae and Langton Shores. All were very grateful and really appreciated them.
At McCullough Park in Shoreview, 27 volunteers from the Arden Hills- Shoreview Rotary Club, the Shoreview Community Garden Club and the city’s natural resources team worked in shifts to plant over 400 plants to bring the city its first pollinator rain garden.
The 2,000-square-foot garden was placed in the city to help meet Rotary International’s goals of supporting the environment through its Operation Pollination initiative. This partnership project is one of Rotary’s six focus areas in an effort to support the environment, led by the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG).
Volunteer for our community initiatives and make a positive impact. We offer a variety of opportunities that cater to different interests and skills.
